Welcome back to this great Kong Dog Toys blog covering all aspects of the mighty Kong dog toys that bring so much fun and pleasure to so many dogs and their contented owners.
I'm going to be a little more general on the topic of those very handy tough toys for dogs by talking about the ones made especially for those very tough breeds of dog that have a tendency to rip to shreds just about any canine toys that they come across. That will include ripping up things that to a human certainly do not fit the description of dog toys. But to a dog, they are fair game!
I'm talking about many things that you would normally leave laying around the house without thinking about their vulnerability to the chewing instinct of a certain four legged family member! So we're talking such things as shoes, boots, items of clothing, anything made out of wood including nice ornaments or even wooden handled tools for that matter, anything made of tough plastic, again that includes tools and eating utensils such as knives and forks with chunky plastic (or wooden for that matter) handles. Oh yes, they are all fair game for that inquisitive dog of yours!
So the best course of action is to replace anything that looks like it might be an interesting canine plaything to your tough terrier or bulldog, with a real tough Kong dog toy that will probably stand a good chance of lasting a lot longer than anything that is not a true doggy toy!
So when I say tough dogs, what breeds of dog are we talking?
Mainly the ones with tough jaws that love to chew stuff, such as Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Pit Bull Terriers (and most of the thickset bull terriers come to think of it), Rottweilers, German Shepherds (don't I know it!) etc. There are plenty of other breeds of dog that I'm sure you can come up with as well, but I just don't feel like writing about a long list of them right here or I'll be here all night!
They all need to chew stuff so you're better off making sure they get their sharp teeth and strong canine jaws into a really tough Kong toy rather than your best cutlery or screwdriver set (like my little darling did!). Or worse still, that expensive pair of nice designer leather boots that to a dog will resemble a very tempting propriety hide chew from the pet shop that you probably give the dog all the time as a treat! Little things you might not think of but you'll be surprised at the incredible memory of a dog when he has a mind to...
Happy doggy playtime!
